Don’t Be a Drone
I don't follow or copy other people. Never have.
I detest the drone look that pervades fetish and kink culture. You see it often, whole clusters of people dressed the same, as if wearing a uniform.
To copy the style of another person signals a lack of originality. It renders the clone as a cosplayer, it flattens their identity.
All my life I have a seen a lot of leather and fetish looks, but I have always blended spandex, leather, sports gear, nylon and rubber to create my own look that expresses who I am. I follow my own internal rules when it comes to gear.
Many kinksters have laughed at me and ridiculed me for not dressing like "old guard" leather people or kinksters. The photo above is a good example of that. Wore it to Jackhammer in Chicago once and got some very pointed comments.
But I have never given two fucks about what other people think about me or my fits.
Being original is not hard to do. You just have to pay attention to who you really are, and move toward your unique sense of fashion, style, and sensuality. If you stay true to yourself, you'll never need to look to other people's gear to come up with your own look.
